Sycamore International, a renowned Information Technology Asset Disposition (ITAD) company, began planning in 2020 for a sustainable power solution that would live up to the company’s already sustainability-centric operation.
They enlisted TerraSol’s help to design and implement a unique Energy Warehouse solution that would be safe, environmentally friendly, and allow them to achieve energy independence.
For businesses like Sycamore, where a single power outage can cost tens of thousands of dollars in a single day – the stakes are too high to wait for an ordinary solution. Their operations demand the ability to maintain full functionality around the clock, regardless of what the grid is doing.
The design paired a 114.84kWdc rooftop SunPower solar array with an ESS Inc. iron flow battery — a deliberate choice over lithium-ion. Unlike conventional battery technology, iron flow batteries are built to serve long-duration energy needs safely and sustainably, with a lifespan designed to match the solar system itself.
For a company with Sycamore’s experience managing sensitive technology and data infrastructure, safety and long asset life were non-negotiable.
The language of this project was always about more than just savings, it was also about resilience. The finished system generates an estimated 142,700 kWh annually, meaningfully reducing Sycamore’s carbon footprint by 7.2 tons of CO2 per year while protecting facilities from the cost and disruption of grid outages.
The project exceeded all expectations. TerraSol managed every aspect — from engineering and permitting to installation and grid interconnection — ensuring the work was completed on time and without disrupting Sycamore’s day-to-day operations.
